Giving Hope to Children in Foster Care…
As part of Melissa’s Closets’ Free Store services, we offer the Bags of Hope program!
When children enter foster care, they are typically unable to bring their belongings. Many children arrive with very little, sometimes only the clothing on their backs. Those who do have belongings, often carry them in trash bags. Providing a brand new backpack or bag filled with age appropriate comfort & essential items, we can create a sense of comfort, normalcy, dignity, and a small sense of ownership, during a very difficult time.

There is a great need in the state of Texas. The 2021 published numbers for children in state care are:
-28,042 children in Texas lived apart from their families in out-of-home care,
-10,424 licensed foster homes were available for placements.
